We believe in being a resource, serving as an advocate, outreaching, empowering, and assisting 1) Asians & Pacific Islanders at-risk for HIV infection, 2) those living with HIV/AIDS, and 3) their friends, partners, family members, and service providers to meet their needs and improve access to services. Delivered by a trained professional staff, our services are confidential and provided free of charge regardless of residency or immigration status. Current programs include:

  • Project ASSIST: Asian Specialized Services In Support and Treatment: Provides assistance and services to API's living with HIV/AIDS and their care givers; such services include client advocacy, case management, counseling, support, education, and information and referral to medical, legal, social and community services.
  • Education/Outreach: Information and education about HIV/AIDS through community outreach, participating in community events, distributing information in nine languages, and more. Professional trainings are also offered.
  • GACHEP (Gay Asian Community Health Empowerment Project): A special program designed to address the health (especially HIV prevention) and educational needs of Asian and Pacific Islander sexual minorities. Specific activities include:
    • Rice Paper is the official publication of GACHEP and is produced quarterly. The magazine features contributions from lesbian, gay, bisexual and, transgendered Asian and Pacific Islanders. Provides health information and short essays, stories, and poetry that reflects the experiences, and concerns of members of our communities.
    • Jaded Lounge is the gay Asian party experience of Philadelphia. It's an event for gay Asian men and their supporters. It's a mix of dancing, entertainment mixed with education and just a place to connect with friends or make new ones. The Jaded Lounge occurs every 2nd Friday of the month at the 12th Air Command Bar, 254 South 12th Street, from 10 pm to 1 am. Invitation to the event can be mailed upon request, please sign up on the mailing list.
    • Hot Tracks is a telephone hotline for and by gay men of color. This project is in collaboration between ASIAC, GALAEI and COLOURS, Inc. to provide information, resources, counseling, and support to gay men of color to reduce their risk of HIV infection. The hotline provides 1) Information on available resources and events of interest to gay men of color, 2) One on one counseling provided by phone health counselors , and 3) a weekly support group to be facilitated by phone health counselors.   • Choose to Know Campaign: Provides and promotes access to confidential HIV/AIDS testing and counseling services. Interpreters available with advance notice.
  • Language Access Health Project: Professional interpreters and translators are available to help in cross-cultural communication (includes African and Asian languages) for HIV Testing and Project ASSIST services. Multilingual AIDS materials transmission, nutrition, treatment, resources, etc. made available and downloadable through the Internet. Click this link to see more details.
