AIDS Services In Asian Communities (ASIAC) is a non-profit organization
dedicated to providing culturally sensitive and language appropriate
HIV-related services to Asians and Pacific Islanders and their
partners, friends, family members, and service providers in the
Philadelphia area.
In June of 1995, a diverse group of Asians and Pacific Islanders
organized in response to early indicators that the AIDS epidemic
was at its earliest stages within Philadelphia's Asian and Pacific
Islander communities. They also organized in response to:
- the lack of targeted services to populations most impacted
by HIV infection -- men who have sex with men
- critical service gaps in the health and social service system,
and
- the need for leadership through advocacy and community organizing
efforts around the AIDS crisis as it impacts Asian and Pacific
Islander communities.
The organization is a recognized authority on HIV/AIDS issues
in Asian & Pacific Islander communities demonstrated by our
professional expertise, research, community organizing efforts,
participation in policy & planning activities, advocacy activities,
and track record for quality services.
